ENews Banner - Councilmember Reagan Dunn

March 7, 2012

Dear neighbor:

I have some good news to share.  On February 27, my colleagues on the King County Council unanimously supported a motion I introduced urging the Washington State Legislature to pass House Bill 1820, thereby creating a Blue Alert system for law enforcement in Washington State.

Modeled after AMBER Alerts, HB 1820 would use media resources to inform the public about crucial information regarding suspects who have seriously injured or killed law enforcement officers.  Washington would join seven other states that have created their own law enforcement notification systems.

With the recent death of Washington State Patrol Trooper Tony Radulescu, coupled with the law enforcement tragedies of recent years, the need for Blue Alert is stronger than ever before.  The creation of Blue Alert will go a long way in helping to protect those that work to protect us.

The County Council adopting my motion in support of Blue Alert is good news. The GREAT NEWS is that both the Washington State House of Representatives and Senate unanimously supported its passage!!  Blue Alert now awaits the Governor’s signature for final passage.

You can help by joining me in urging the Governor to sign Blue Alert into law by contacting her at http://www.governor.wa.gov/contact/default.asp

As always, if you have any questions or comments, I am available for assistance at 206.296.1009.

Thank you and regards,

Signature
