Dear Friend,
As we enter the New Year, I wanted to provide you with a brief budget recap and provide a view looking forward to 2013 for your King County Government.
On November 13, 2012, the County Council adopted the 2013 King County Budget. Despite declining revenues, through continuing efficiencies in operations, the County Council passed a spending plan that preserves spending on public safety and human services. This budget also protects the county’s AAA bond rating without tapping the rainy day fund or using the County’s cash reserves.
Although the 2013 County Budget averted cuts to our core services such as law enforcement, there are still issues that will need the Council’s attention such as the financial challenges of the County’s road division as well as the looming $60 million deficit to operate our Metro Transit bus system.
I have recently mailed out a newsletter to District 9 that should be arriving in many of your mailboxes soon. In the newsletter there is a survey covering important issues in King County that you can fill out and mail back to me. If you want to fill out the survey online, go to www.kingcounty.gov/dunn. Your feedback is very important to me. As I continue to work on these and other issues over the coming year, it is always helpful to hear from you.
Should you want to learn more about some of the issues I have been working on, please check out these links for more information:
