Dear Neighbor:

Thank you for taking the time to read my Summer e-Newsletter.  My office is working to make our district e-Newsletter a quarterly report that keeps you up-to-date and informed about the county services available to you.

It’s summer again, and fresh local produce is back in season. Included in this month’s e-Newsletter is information on seasonal farmers markets that are available to you. Also included is information regarding your transit incentives, which will allow you to procure up to eight Metro Transit bus tickets for your household at a $24 value.

It has always been my top priority to be responsive to the needs and concerns of the constituents I serve.  I encourage you to contact my office at (206) 296-1007 or email me at pete.vonreichbauer@kingcounty.gov if you have any questions, comments or concerns.  Also, please visit my Facebook Fan page for updates about my activities at the King County Council.

With Best Wishes,

Pete von Reichbauer

Farmers Markets and Community Supported Agriculture

It’s that time of year again! The sun is out, the flowers are in bloom, and so many of our favorite fruits and vegetables are in season. I’d like to provide you with some information on seasonal farmers markets that are available to you this summer.

One such program, Puget Sound Fresh, facilitates the purchase of locally grown produce at community markets in our area. Farmers Markets not only provide fresh and organic produce, but other items such as homemade goods and fresh-cut flowers that you can only find at this time of year.

On the website localharvest.org, you will be able to find nearby farms as well as community supported agriculture (CSA) programs. A CSA program allows you to purchase local, seasonal food directly from farms in the region – each box, or “share,” could contain simply produce or other fresh farm products. Buying and eating locally-grown food is a great way to support your community and stay healthy.

Transit Incentive Program

Many of you have contacted me with questions about the Transit Incentive Program that was started as a result of the increased car tab fee. The Transit Incentive Program allows King County residents to procure eight Metro Transit bus tickets for their households, which are worth up to $24 in value. This program will be available starting this month, renewing June of 2013, and ending in June of 2014. There are two ways to receive the bus tickets:

  1. When you receive your car tab renewal in the mail, there will be a form in the same envelope where you can apply to receive the tickets.

  2. You can download your form using this link and send it to the following address:

    Transit Incentives Program
    c/o PMA Direct Marketing
    22404 - 66th Ave. S
    Kent, WA 98032-4843

If you do not want to participate in the program, please note that you can donate the value of your tickets to the human service agencies transit program.

Let me hear from you!

Please take my survey and let me know what is important to you.
