Flag Day is a day to show your patriotism and respect to the star spangled banner and the freedom that it represents. This free public event will honor active and retired military, as well as police officers who are serving, or who were in the Armed Services.

Korean Consul General Moon Duk-ho will be giving a special recognition in light of this year's emphasis on Korean War Veterans. Doug Richardson, retired Brigadier General, US Army Reserve, will be this year's keynote speaker. Richardson served in the 2nd Ranger Battalion at Fort Lewis and retired after 32 years of active and reserve service. He also received the Distinguished Service Medal. He is now a Pierce County Councilmember.

A Special recognition will be presented to General Nam Pyo Park, ROK for his military service and community service to our region. General Park has been awarded 6 Korean War Medals and a USA Bronze Medal from President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He retired from the ROK Army in 1970 as Major General after a long career.

The event will also give special recognition to four police officers for their service to the United States as well as King County and their respected cities. The officers being recognized are Federal Way Police Lieutenant Brigham Schulz, Federal Way Police Officer Jeff Mundell, Algona Police Officer Terry Carter, and Algona Police Officer James McKay.

"On June 13th, we will have an opportunity to salute our Star-Spangled Banner, and recognize our local heroes for their service," said Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer. "They deserve our utmost respect and support. I encourage the community to join us."
