Making Voting Easier
To enhance voter accessibility and voter turnout, the Metropolitan King County Council passed an ordinance placing prepaid postage on voters’ ballots. Voters will no longer have to place postage stamps when mailing their ballots back. In the past, there have been instances where voters have forgotten to affix stamps on their ballots, and the county has been charged $1.70 (over three times the current postage rate), or not send the ballot to the County at all.
Honoring Bettie Williams-Watson
District 2 and King County have been blessed with Bettie Williams-Watson’s grace for over 30 years. Ms. Williams-Watson has provided support, guidance and refuge, for those who have experienced domestic and sexual violence within our community. In April, Ms. Bettie Williams-Watson was awarded the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Medal of Distinguished Service for the support she has provided, particularly within the African-American community of King County. Her work in the community, which began in 1987, has included the first support group in the State of Washington for Older Abused Women, Domestic Violence Treatment Prevention programs for kids ages 9-18 and was the co-lead of the only African American Batterers Treatment group for men ages 20-50+, amongst many other programs. Ms. Williams-Watson’s work been recognized locally and nationally. Her work has left an indelible mark within our community, and that’s why Ms. Williams-Watson was chosen as our 2018 Dr. King, Jr Medal of Distinguished Service Awardee.
Congratulations to Franklin High School Mock Trial Team

The team competed against 46 teams, including a team from South Korea, to win. Franklin High School is located in District Two, and the King County Council honored the team on May 7 for winning the state championship. The Council would like to congratulate the members of the team and their coach, Don Eaton, and retired King County Judge William Downing for overseeing high school mock trials in King County for many years.
